Pelephone and Bezeq International announced a new labor dispute

Posted on Dec 9, 2019 by Ifi Reporter

Pelephone and Bezeq International announced a new labor dispute through the General Histadrut, after the management negatively responded to their request to enter into further negotiations following the entry of the Sarcelite Investment Fund to control Bezeq Group.
The announcement of the labor dispute came as a surprise to Bezeq's board of directors because it was believed that the agreements signed with the employees meant that the subsidiaries embarked on a new path and that industrial quiet was achieved that would allow for a stable and quiet job. However, from the standpoint of the workers' committees, the agreements reached appear to be related to the synergy questions that Bezeq's subsidiaries will face and are not related to the issue of entry of the new controlling shareholders. Furthermore, according to the committees, the management was clear that the introduction of Surchelight would result in a renewed discussion on the employment security of the employees, who do not know whether Serkelight is coming for a round on Bezeq or who has come for a long time as a strategic investor.
In a letter to management, employees made numerous requests, some of which sound reasonable and some far-reaching, such as the requirement to grant employee acquisition grants, to take into account the fact that when Bezeq was privatized in the previous decade, they did not receive a grant. This is while Bezeq employees and the managers of all companies have enjoyed very large grants.
The letter requires employees to evaluate the collective bargaining agreements signed this year in two years, to ensure that Sarclight does not initiate further layoffs as long as it is controlling. Employees also require capital compensation and options on the occasion of the entry of Searchlight, and they also require the appointment of directors on their behalf, as the Bezeq board of directors sits a representative of employees.
Yehiel Shemen, Chairman of the Pelephone Committee said: "Anyone who thinks he can acquire the largest and most powerful media group in Israel without dialogue and conversation with us is wrong and misleading. The last time Bezeq was acquired, Pelephone's CEO received millions of shekels and VP's enjoyed distribution of options and hundreds of thousands of shekels to their pocket and private, while employees received a gift in the form of a chocolate package. I also hope that American purchasers have internalized that the pig capitalism period is over and now has a dominant and dominant cellphone worker who will not settle for crumbs and sweets, but ensuring employee rights including a proper acquisition grant, extending the long-term collective bargaining agreement and representing Pelephone's board of directors.
