The High Court presiding as the justice court ordered the freezing of Ophir Cohen's appointment as Director General of the Ministry of Justice - pending a decision in the petition filed by the Movement for Quality Government. Judge George Read ruled that the petition be referred to the vehicle as soon as possible. It is yet to be determined who will sit in the lineup.
Justice Minister Amir Ohana sought to appoint Cohen to the post after dismissing former CEO Emmy Palmore.
The Movement for Quality Government argued that "the Appointments Committee's opinion raises extremely difficult question marks regarding the nature of the considerations used in Cohen's nomination process, all of which is in direct contradiction to the clear provisions of the Judiciary during an election period - to the point that the guidelines are completely blank. Minister Ohana failed to explain why he would be rushed to fire Emmy Palmore during such a sensitive period, and how he may not have found any proper replacement among senior civil servants. There is no doubt in the interim order to testify as a thousand witnesses that the court's opinion also did not rest on the minister's explanations, or explanations, and we hope that at the end of this proceeding, this appointment will be disqualified.
Earlier, the Senior Appointments Committee unanimously approved Cohen's candidacy
Ohana said in response that "Cohen is one of the most deserving of government ministries. He is a person who has donated his most beautiful years to the State Security Service and carries the high price on his body. I hope and appreciate that the Supreme Court will be impressed with this as well. "
Cohen is a lawyer in his profession of expert in real estate, real estate and municipal taxation. He is one of the founders and heads of the reserve minister's association, in which he led and promoted legislative processes and amendments to senior public service officials, elected officials and various Knesset committees.
