Finance Minister Kahlon signed the first 4 chapters of the new Israeli building code

Posted on Aug 11, 2019 by Ifi Reporter

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon recently signed the first four chapters of the new Israeli building code, the Ministry of Construction and Housing, which prepares the code, announced on Sunday.
The building code is a set of planning and building instructions and guidelines, which were prepared by the Ministry as part of a government decision of December 2006 to implement the State Inquiry Committee Report on the Safety of Buildings, headed by the late Judge Vardi Zeiler. And will apply to all buildings in Israel.
The four chapters signed are about acoustics, garbage collection, user safety - a chapter that inter alia deals with safe work regulations on roofs of buildings - and sanitation facilities, and will soon be released to the general public. The Ministry of Housing said that other chapters in the building code are in the final stages of preparation for publication. Ten episodes are expected to be published.
The Ministry of Construction and Housing said that the law requires the signature of the minister, and it is the one that gives effect to the chapters of the program he signed. There are also reports that the regulations will take effect six months after they are published in the records and those responsible for enforcing them are control institutes authorized by the Planning Administration. Anyone who is interested in perusing the code can do so on the Web site of the Planning Administration or Information Portal.
"The new code, whose work has been completed after many years of inter-office teamwork with professionals in the field, changes the thinking of the foundations - the code addresses the safety criteria in mind, along with the use of green technologies and incorporates future changes along with sustainable development."
Benny Dreyfus, Director General of the Ministry of Construction and Housing said: "The new building code represents a change of perception in the Ministry of Construction and Housing. The code was written with innovative, up-to-date and creative thinking in the field of construction, unique and adapted to Israel."
Tali Hirsch Sherman, director of the Department of Building Theory and Engineering Development at the Ministry of Construction and Housing, said: "The building code has a significant impact on the planning of residential buildings and public buildings in the State of Israel, as well as a major impact on improving the quality of construction and maintenance of future buildings. Today, which significantly impairs the construction industry, construction costs and quality. A large part of the provisions that exist today in the planning and construction regulations are outdated and even not applicable. "
