Spacecom announced today that the Amos 17 satellite will be launched into space on Sunday, August 4, the day after, according to weather conditions, from the Cape Canaveral Space Center in Florida. The satellite, designed and designed by Space, was built by Boeing and will be launched by SpaceEx.
According to Spacecom, the selection of these leading companies and their advanced technologies enabled the construction of a unique satellite with 20 years of service expected and the international status of Spacecom as an innovative communications service provider. The satellite will be positioned at 17 degrees East, above the African continent, to provide satellite TV and satellite Internet services at any point on the growing continent.
Spacecom currently operates three communications satellites, Amos 3 and Amos 4, which it owns and Amos 7, which it has leased for the past two and a half years. The launch is the company's first launch since its predecessor, Amos 6, exploded in September 2016.
In preparation for the scheduled launch of Amos 17, which was named after the Sky Point, a press briefing was held today, led by CEO David Pollack, in which Pollack said that Amos 6 had an amazing agreement with Facebook for the Internet One in Africa, it was a dream agreement, I still remember the explosion of Amos 6 and we lost this agreement but I hope we can do it with Amos 17. "
Pollack added that "following the failure of Amos 6, Facebook decided that they no longer communicate with customers before launching the satellites, and we hope that after the launch, agreements will be signed with companies like Facebook." He also confirmed that Facebook has already been contacted on the subject.
"We have capabilities that we did not have in the past to turn to state governments and provide full service," Pollack said. According to him, Facebook changed the model after Amos 6 and today they no longer adopt a single satellite for themselves, but communicate with satellites for various services.
Spacecom said that the company already has a backlog of orders for communications services in Africa and other services in the amount of $ 58 million, and expects that after the launch, intense sales will result in additional large contracts. One of the contracts that the company hopes to receive is with Facebook, thanks to the technological superiority that the new satellite brings to Africa, compared to the competitors that are currently located over the continent.
