The Minister of Economy and Industry, Eli Cohen, signed a personal import order aimed at easing personal imports and implementing the exemptions promoted by the previous government in the area of ​​regulation.
The order is one of the tools to increase competition and reduce the cost of living, and will allow for the personal import of food additives, beauty products and cosmetics, car parts and transportation products such as car safety chairs, helmets, braking systems, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, irons, dishwashers, , Televisions, tablets, printers and more
According to the order, the quantity permitted for imports of consumer goods for personal use will be up to five units or $ 1,000. For the products for which approval is required, the maximum time for approval will be two days, except for communications and transportation, for which time will be 14 days in the first two years and then five days.
In products for renovation or construction of a home, the consumer can import larger quantities, as long as he proves that the import is used for construction or renovation.
According to data provided by the Ministry of Economy in areas exposed to online trading and personal imports, the price dropped between 2011 and 2017. In cosmetics there was a drop of close to 20%, in watch and audio systems a decrease of about 50%, in the clothing and footwear sectors a decline of 10%, and in furniture and household equipment decreased by 15%. It was also reported that 10% of the basket of household consumption in Israel originates in imports, compared with 19% in the OECD countries, and personal imports are intended to cope with this gap.
