Palace Modi’in Residents Welcome the New Year With a Sweet Beekeeping Experience

Residents of Palace Modi’in, part of the Azrieli Group’s assisted-living network, marked the approaching Jewish New Year with a unique and sweet educational outing to the Ma’ale HaHamisha Kibbutz apiary.

During the visit, the residents toured the apiary and were introduced to the fascinating world of bees. They learned about the organization of a bee colony, the role of the queen bee and the importance of bees in nature and agriculture.

The group also had an opportunity to experience the honey-harvesting process and participate in honey extraction, gaining a firsthand look at how honey moves from the hive to the final product.

The visit concluded with a tasting of fresh honey directly from the hives, providing a festive connection to one of the traditional foods associated with Rosh Hashanah.

“A Wonderful Way to Begin the New Year”

Riki Sofer, Cultural Activities Manager at Palace Modi’in, said the residents were particularly enthusiastic about the experience.

“The residents were very excited,” Sofer said. “The visit to the apiary was a wonderful way to open the New Year.”

Combining Culture, Learning and Social Activity

The outing is part of Palace Modi’in’s cultural and enrichment activities for its residents, combining educational experiences with social interaction and excursions outside the community.

The timing of the visit, shortly before Rosh Hashanah, added a symbolic dimension to the activity, connecting the traditional wish for a sweet New Year with an authentic encounter with the source of honey itself.
