105 Palace Residents Set Sail on an Eight-Day Danube Journey

Approximately 105 residents and managers from the Palace Assisted Living network, part of the Azrieli Group, recently embarked on an eight-day cruise along the Danube River aboard a ship specially branded “Palace.”

The journey combined river cruising, cultural tourism, history and leisure, taking participants through some of Austria’s most picturesque landscapes and historic destinations.

From Passau and Regensburg to Vienna

The cruise itinerary included Passau and Regensburg, followed by stops in Linz, Grein and the Wachau Valley, before concluding in Vienna.

During the journey, Palace residents visited historic castles and palaces, ancient towns and monasteries, while experiencing the region's architecture, art and cultural heritage.

The Danube cruise also provided passengers with an opportunity to enjoy the scenery along one of Europe's most important and historically significant rivers.

A Memorial Ceremony at Mauthausen

One of the most significant stops on the journey was Mauthausen, the site of the former Nazi concentration camp.

The Palace group held a moving memorial ceremony at the site in memory of the victims who perished there. The visit added a historical and commemorative dimension to a journey otherwise centered on culture, tourism and recreation.

The Ship Sold Out Within 48 Hours

According to Yigal Oren, CEO of Palace Modiin Assisted Living, the idea for the cruise was first raised approximately a year ago.

“The idea for this trip was raised about a year ago, and within 48 hours of opening registration, the entire ship was fully booked,” Oren said.

He added that the ship was specially branded with the Palace network's name for the journey, making the cruise a distinctive group experience for residents from the network.

Combining Travel, Culture and Community

The cruise reflects the growing emphasis within assisted-living communities on providing residents with experiences that extend beyond the residential environment.

For the Palace residents, the eight-day journey offered a combination of travel, cultural exploration, social interaction and historical remembrance — while allowing participants to experience several European destinations as part of a single organized voyage.
