"Israelis prefer to spend their time in Pesach holidays abroad"

Posted on Apr 11, 2019 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Israelis prefer holidays abroad rather than tospend their holiday in Israel. A 38% drop in bookings for hotels in Israel was registered compared to the previous Passover holiday, according to the booking data of the international hotel comparison website Hotels Compounds.
According to additional data, there was an increase of 16.5% in the number of bookings by Israeli vacationers to hotels abroad, in addition to an increase of 10% in the number of average nights compared to the previous Passover.
The drop in demand for hotels in Israel was reflected in a decline in the average price per night Israelis pay on Passover, especially in luxury hotels. The average price per night in Israel for a five-star hotel fell from $ 300 last year to $ 254 this year, a drop of 15 percent. In one-star hotels in Israel, the average price dropped from $ 85.5 to $ 79 (down 7.6%).
A geographic breakdown by the Hotels Combind website reveals that the steepest decline is in hotel prices in Eilat and the Dead Sea, as well as in Tiberias. In the big cities, prices fell at low rates, while in Netanya there was an increase of 15% in the average price per night, reaching $ 197.
According to Eyal Segal, manager of Hotels Israel, the "flight" of Israelis abroad is a result of the increasing sophistication of vacationers who have learned to book flights and hotels in advance, especially during periods of high demand and demand. It is important to note that even after the fall in prices we see prices of hotels in Israel are still expensive compared to the alternatives abroad, especially on Passover, which is completely different from the Easter holiday in terms of length and vacations.
