The Ministry of Communications fines Pelephone in an amount of NIS 700,000

The Ministry of Communications oversees the protection of minors from surfing cellular phones. He informed Pelephone of his intention to impose a fine of about NIS 700,000. According to the firm, the company violated provisions to protect minors from harmful websites and content on the Internet.
The Ministry of Communications Supervision and Enforcement Department carried out 10 frontal transactions as a hidden customer in sales and service centers or at the Company's points of sale. In the course of the transactions during which they joined the tariff program, which includes surfing the Internet minors who were not supposed to receive such offers.

In nine transactions out of the ten transactions executed (90%), the representative will not inform the Supervisor during the transaction of offensive sites and offensive content on the Internet and the possibilities of protection against them, including technological means intended to filter such sites or content. The aforesaid information was not disclosed to the Supervisor, although the tariff plans in all transactions included Internet surfing service, and the Commissioner emphasized that the transaction was intended for a minor aged 9-10.
"In order to prevent harm to minors, the Ministry of Communications will continue to act in any way to increase public awareness of the dangers that exist on the Internet and the right of customers to demand from the companies and receive free filtering software against harmful sites," he said. The ministry said in response to an amendment to the Communications Law, which recently entered into force, the amounts of sanctions have doubled and are now more daunting.
