Senior Rummy Championship Finals Held at Palace Ra’anana: Nearly 100 Players Competed

A regional Rummy championship for senior citizens was held this week at Palace Ra'anana, bringing together approximately 100 participants from across the Sharon region for a multi-stage tournament centered on the popular card-and-dice game.

The competition featured qualifying rounds, semifinals, and final matches, with the concluding stages taking place at the assisted living residence over the course of four hours.

Forty Players Reached Semifinals

Tournament organizers said that 40 competitors advanced to the semifinal stage, while 24 players qualified for the championship finals.

The event was designed specifically for members of Israel’s senior community and aimed to combine competitive play with social engagement and recreational activity.

Top Winners Announced Following Final Round

The tournament’s top-ranked winners were announced as:

• Pani Hodik
• Efrat Dagan
• Shirley Abudahram
• Kalman Luria

Organizers praised the participants for their enthusiasm and competitive spirit throughout the event.

Tournament Inspired by Granddaughter’s Initiative

The championship was initiated by Maor Shiri, whose grandmother, Devora Avineri, is an enthusiastic Rummy player.

According to organizers, the idea grew out of a desire to create a large-scale social and recreational framework for senior citizens who share a passion for the game.

The event was held in cooperation with Israeli public broadcaster Kan 11, which documented the competition and participants throughout the tournament.
