The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Wednesday evening that Staff Sgt. Tuval Lipshitz, a soldier in the 13th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, was killed in combat in southern Lebanon. He was from the northern city of Beit She’an.
Local officials and community members paid tribute to Lipshitz, describing him as a dedicated and compassionate individual who chose a combat role out of a sense of mission and commitment.
Beit She’an Mayor Noam Jumaa said Lipshitz embodied “kindness, devotion, and courage,” noting that he had volunteered extensively and was known for always helping others. Despite being assigned to a different role, he chose to serve in the Golani Brigade, following in the footsteps of his father and older brother.
“He fought so that we could live here in security and routine with our families,” the mayor said, adding that the city stands united in grief and solidarity with the family.
Family and Community in Mourning
Lipshitz’s parents, described as long-standing members of the community—his mother a kindergarten teacher and his father an educator—were said to have raised “a son who represented the best of Israel.”
According to the family’s wishes, the funeral will be held with Golani Brigade flags alongside Israeli flags, honoring his service and identity.
Former Beit She’an mayor Jacky Levy also expressed his condolences, describing Lipshitz as a soldier who fell “in defense of the people and the land,” and highlighting his dedication, responsibility, and love for the country.
Ongoing Fighting in Southern Lebanon
The incident comes amid continued fighting in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces remain engaged in operations against Hezbollah positions.
The IDF has not released further operational details regarding the circumstances of Lipshitz’s death.
