The Histadrut is expected to hold a special session on Wednesday for the election of the chairman of the 15th Histadrut, after Tel Aviv District Court Judge Rachel Barkai rejected the petition by Yair Tarchitzky, Chairman of the Journalists' Association, The candidate for the post in place of current chairman Avi Nissenkorn, who is running for the Knesset in the Blue and White Party, is Arnon Bar-David.
The court ruled that the procedure for selecting the chairman, which the Histadrut has adopted, is a proper arrangement that meets all legal and democratic criteria. "The decision examined a legal issue that had previously been subject to judicial review and approved by the Supreme Court, Reflects the composition of the constituency of the results of the last elections held among all members of the Histadrut - is the representative body that expresses the will of the voters and therefore there is nothing wrong with the selection process that was decided after examining all the necessary considerations, "the Histadrut said. Wednesday as planned, and will carry out the procedure A Arnon Bar-David who applied for the position of Chairman of the World ".
Tarchitzky is expected to submit an application for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court. "As expected, the District Court allows the House of Representatives to appoint a replacement for Nissenkorn without general elections," said the chairman of the journalists' organization.
Tarchitzky filed a petition last week demanding that the Histadrut hold general elections among its half a million members. The petition, filed by attorneys Oded Gazit and Eliram Bakal, claims that Tarchitzky, who is considering himself to run for the position of chairman of the Histadrut, said that the decision to choose Avi Nissenkorn's replacement as head of the Histadrut in a narrow forum of representatives of the Histadrut, "Invalid and unreasonable" and creates a "de facto illegitimate inheritance mechanism".
