Shikma Bresler Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Knesset Member Tali Gottlieb and Activists Over Conspiracy Theory

Posted on Feb 1, 2024 by Ifi Reporter

In a significant legal development, Shikma Bresler, a prominent leader of the protest against the legal revolution, has filed a defamation lawsuit totaling NIS 2.6 million against Knesset member Tali Gottlieb of the Likud party. The lawsuit also targets six other network activists who propagated a conspiracy theory linking Bresler to intelligence officials regarding events in October.

The lawsuit, spanning 15 pages, condemns the "blatant, conspiratorial, and pervasive lies" propagated against Bresler and her partner, a public servant. The central claim revolves around accusations of treason, affiliation with the terrorist organization Hamas, and alleged responsibility for a massacre on October 7. Bresler's legal team asserts that these false narratives were systematically spread as part of a planned crusade by a member of parliament against a citizen.

Knesset member Tali Gottlieb responded to the lawsuit, asserting her legal immunity and expressing no intention to waive it. She maintained her position on social media, alleging that Bresler is responsible for the events that transpired, and dismissing the lawsuit as an attempt to regain the spotlight.

Bresler's lawyers have officially approached the police's investigation and intelligence division head and the government's legal advisor, urging the initiation of an investigation into Gottlieb. The alleged offenses include aiding the enemy in war, revealing confidential information, defeatist propaganda, abuse of official power, breach of trust, and defamation.

This legal clash comes after Gottlieb sent a warning letter to Bresler, reiterating the conspiracy theory and accusing her of fleeing the country during the war. Despite Gottlieb's claims, Bresler remains in Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu has distanced himself from Gottlieb's statements and the disclosure of Shin Bet personnel.

The lawsuit sheds light on the broader implications of false narratives permeating public discourse, reaching into the heart of the Knesset's stationery and almost every household, as per the statement of claim. As the legal battle unfolds, it underscores the tensions between public figures and activists in a politically charged environment.
