Check Point revealed: security breach in software used by ultrasound machine in Israel

Check Point revealed a security breach in software used by an ultrasound machine at a central hospital in Israel. Check Point researchers found that the system used by the ultrasound device is the old Windows 2000, which comes with many known security weaknesses. The software does not receive automatic security updates and as a result leaves the ultrasound machine - and the information of the patients stored there - vulnerable to attacks. "From here, the way to break into the software and reach sensitive information about it was very short," the company said.
In the past year, there have been several cyber attacks on hospitals, with the last few months revealing personal and sensitive details of more than 1.4 million patients in Singapore, including the Singaporean prime minister. Cyber attacks on hospitals and medical institutions are reported on a weekly basis around the world. Two weeks ago, a suicide attack on a cardiology hospital in Melbourne, Australia, where the medical information was encrypted by hackers demanding payment in exchange for his release.
