Former U.S. President Joe Biden Diagnosed with Aggressive Prostate Cancer

Posted on May 18, 2025 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bones, a spokesperson announced Sunday evening. The cancer, while advanced, is reportedly hormone-sensitive, offering potential for effective treatment.

The diagnosis followed tests conducted last week after Biden began experiencing worsening urinary symptoms. According to the spokesperson, a small lump” was discovered in his prostate, prompting further evaluation. On Friday, Biden received a Gleason score of 9, indicating a highly aggressive form of prostate cancer with confirmed bone metastases.

Although this is a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective treatment,” said the spokesperson. “The president and his family are currently exploring treatment options with his doctors.”

Trump Sends Well-Wishes

Current U.S. President Donald Trump offered his support, writing on the platform X (formerly Twitter),

Melania and I were saddened to hear of Joe Biden’s medical condition. We send our warmest wishes to Jill and the family.”

Biden Maintains Low Profile Post-Presidency

Since leaving office in January 2025, Biden — the oldest president in U.S. history — has maintained a low public profile, spending most of his time at his Delaware residence and making occasional visits to Washington to meet with staff and plan post-presidency activities.

Throughout his presidency, Biden faced persistent scrutiny over his health and age, factors that ultimately contributed to his decision not to seek re-election. In a widely viewed appearance on The View, Biden addressed these concerns directly:

That’s not true,” he said, in response to claims about cognitive decline. “There’s nothing that holds water.”

The diagnosis comes days before the release of a new book titled Original Sin” by Jake Tapper (CNN) and Alex Thompson (Axios). The book delves into Biden’s presidency and the controversial decision by Democratic Party leadership to support a re-election bid despite reported internal concerns about his cognitive state.

While relying heavily on anonymous sources, the book includes accounts of internal tension and efforts by senior advisers to downplay warnings. Only a few party officials and advisers are named directly, highlighting the continued sensitivity within the Democratic Party around Biden's health and legacy.
