Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Shows Support for Employees and Grants Bonus Amid Israel's Conflict
Posted on Oct 25, 2023 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang expressed unwavering support for the company's 3,300 employees in Israel, many of whom have been called up to serve in the reserves amid the ongoing conflict in the region. The tech mogul's sentiments were shared via YouTube, where he not only voiced his backing for his Israeli colleagues but also urged Americans to offer their support during these challenging times.
Huang conveyed the harsh reality that Nvidia's employees in Israel are currently facing, stating, "500 people have been drafted into the reserves, and they are fighting the war against the terrorists." He further emphasized the incredible courage and determination displayed by these individuals, who, despite the dangers surrounding them, continue to work diligently on the development of networking products.
In his video address, Huang touched on the gravity of the situation, saying, "We're here, and for us, it looks like news, but they're there, and for them, it's reality." He encouraged viewers to reach out to friends and colleagues in Israel, letting them know that they are in their thoughts and prayers.
Not stopping at words of encouragement, Huang took it a step further. Nvidia decided to grant a one-time financial bonus to its employees in Israel, acknowledging the unique challenges they are currently facing. Furthermore, the company launched a fundraising initiative to support humanitarian causes in the region. Huang revealed that Nvidia had already raised $4.5 million in just two weeks, and the company pledged to match donations from its employees up to a total of $10 million.
In an internal email shared with Nvidia employees in Israel, Huang explained the bonus attached to their upcoming salary and highlighted the fundraising efforts. Notably, he expressed that the contributions could go towards supporting causes in Israel, as well as aiding innocent Palestinians, ultimately allowing employees to decide where their support should be directed.
The recent developments have had a direct impact on Nvidia, particularly due to its acquisition of Israeli company Mellanox in 2019. Tragically, Avinatan Or, an Nvidia employee, was kidnapped to Gaza along with his partner Noa Argamani. Additionally, Daniel Waldman, the daughter of Mellanox founder Il Waldman, lost her life during these turbulent times. Consequently, Nvidia had to cancel a significant conference in Israel that was planned with CEO Jensen Huang's participation.
Huang's demonstration of support and the company's commitment to providing financial assistance underscore the global significance of this conflict and the role corporations can play in providing aid during such difficult times.
