Mayors: The Ministry of the Interior should announce the postponement of the elections. - we are at war

Mayors from various municipalities are urging the government to delay the upcoming local elections, which are originally slated for October 31, 2023. The conflict has resulted in hundreds of casualties, with thousands wounded, missing, or held captive in Gaza, as well as tens of thousands of residents affected by the ongoing hostilities.
While the Minister of the Interior contemplates a one-month postponement of the local elections, the Central Election Committee continues its preparations without interruption. With only 21 days remaining until the scheduled election date, the lack of a definitive decision from the Interior Ministry has left many questioning the feasibility of holding elections during such a tumultuous period.
In the face of this dire security situation, calls for decisive leadership have grown louder. Many argue that the Minister of the Interior should demonstrate prudence by announcing a two-month delay in the election schedule. The pending democratic exercise, where the residents of the State of Israel are set to cast their votes, is raising concerns about whether the timing is appropriate given the ongoing war in Gaza.
Ran Konik, the Mayor of Givatayim, acknowledges the gravity of the situation, stating, "It seems that there is no choice but to postpone the elections, and I believe that this is the most likely outcome. Israel is currently engaged in a conflict of unprecedented scale, making it impractical to proceed with local elections. Delaying the elections by a month should have little impact under the current circumstances."
Multiple mayors have joined the chorus, demanding that the Minister of the Interior promptly announce the postponement of the elections to provide municipal systems with the necessary time and resources to address the ongoing crisis.
In a statement released by the Election Committee, it was emphasized that, "As of now, no decision has been made to postpone the elections, and operational preparations are proceeding as planned, following the contingency measures set forth by the Ministry of the Interior, even in the event of a war scenario."
One mayor summarized the sentiment, saying, "We are in the midst of burying our residents, tending to the wounded and missing, and grappling with the extensive challenges posed by this conflict. The Ministry of the Interior should act decisively and immediately announce the postponement of the elections; we are, indeed, at war."
