IBM lays off dozens of development workers in the field of software-based storage in Israel. As part of the procedure, the computing giant offered those employees to replace the dismissal with an orderly retirement procedure or to look for an alternative workplace in the company.
IBM maintains a significant development center in Israel in the field of storage employing many hundreds of employees. The center began its journey following the purchase of the Israeli start-up company XIV in 2008.
The layoffs at IBM join significant layoffs made by other tech giants in Israel in recent months, such as Meta, and Amazon. The company stated: "IBM is constantly reviewing and updating its technology and product portfolio, with the aim of remaining at the forefront of innovation and providing a full response to the needs of its customers in the present and in the future. This requires the adjustment of a small part of our human resources in Israel, but does not affect the commitment at all ours to our customers or to Israel."
IBM Israel employs approximately 3,000 people in five centers: Petah Tikva, Azrieli Tel Aviv, Givatayim, Beer Sheva, and Haifa. A significant part of them are development workers and the rest work in the fields of theoretical research, marketing, and sales.
