Israel Post threatens to file a petition with the High Court against Communications Minister Shlomo Karai, after Karai began the political impeachment process of Post Chairman Mishal Vakanin. On Sunday, Karai and Minister David Amsalem sent a letter to the chairman of the post office in which they finally informed him of their intention to remove him from his position.
The two's letter comes despite the warnings of the professional clerks at the Ministry of Finance, who warned that the impeachment would be a disaster for the postal privatization process. The position of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is also against the impeachment. Karai consulted with the Companies Authority according to law, but the director of the Companies Authority, attorney Michal Rosenbaum, made it clear to him that there is no reason to impeach Vaknin and vice versa - he is the one who brought about the efficiency of the post office, and is therefore necessary for the privatization process.
In Karai and Amsalem's letter, the two addressed various accusations against Vaknin regarding the level of service at the post office and claimed that Vaknin does not fulfill his role properly. According to them, the board did not deal at all with the question of service and the development of growth engines. Karai made it clear that he has no confidence in him, so he intends to depose him.
In response to this letter, the Israel Post hired the law firm Erdinset Ben Natan Tolidano, who responded to Kraei and made it clear to him that the Postal Service intends to petition the High Court against the impeachment proceedings. "False claims" against Vaknin. According to them, Kraei's procedure was carried out with extreme lack of authority and unreasonableness, and with only apparent consultation with the Companies Authority. "If the impeachment procedure is carried out, it will be a political takeover of government companies against the law," they wrote in a mail to Kraei.
