The collection of social security and health insurance fees is expected to increase this year by NIS 9 billion

Posted on Oct 31, 2022 by Ifi Reporter

The collection of social security and health insurance fees is expected to increase this year by NIS 9 billion, which is an 11% jump compared to last year and an increase of NIS 5 billion relatives to the forecast.

The collection of social security fees alone is expected to increase by NIS 6 billion (12%). The increase in the collection is due to the increase in employment and wages in the economy. It will make it possible to cover the increases in National Insurance expenses in areas such as nursing allowances and disability allowances and to prevent a deficit.
Due to the increase in activity in the economy, the state's tax revenues from the beginning of the year to the end of September stand at NIS 355 billion, a real increase of 17%. At the same time, there was a significant increase in income from social security fees and health insurance fees collected by social security. But since, unlike taxes, the collection of insurance premiums has a ceiling, this is a smaller increase of about 11%.
National insurance and health insurance premiums collected this year until September (that is, 3 quarters out of 4) from renters, self-employed and employers, amounted to NIS 66 billion compared to NIS 59 billion in the corresponding period. This is an increase of NIS 7 billion and 12%. National insurance fees alone collected in the first three quarters amounted to NIS 43.8 billion, an increase of NIS 5.1 billion.
In 2021, NIS 79.6 billion will be collected for social insurance and health fees. The forecast for 2022 at the beginning of the year was NIS 83.5 billion, which means an increase of 5%. The updated forecast is NIS 88.5 billion, which means an increase of NIS 9 billion.
Of this in 2021, NIS 52.3 billion will be collected for National Insurance. The forecast for 2022 was NIS 54.9 billion, which means an increase of about NIS 2.5 billion, which is 5%. The updated forecast is NIS 58.5 billion, which means an increase of NIS 6.2 billion, which is 12%. According to the forecast, health insurance premiums amounting to 30 billion shekels will be transferred to the Ministry of Health by the end of the year, compared to 27.3 billion last year, a 10% increase.
The increase in the collection of social security fees is not expected to generate significant surpluses but to prevent deficits. This is due to the increase that has occurred in recent years in nursing allowance payments, supplementing income for senior citizens and disability. National Insurance said that "the payment of allowances to citizens depends on the collection percentages." We recognize the public's trust."
