A mapping project will enable visitors and patients to quickly reach their destination in hospitals

Posted on Jan 10, 2019 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Navigating hospitals between floors and departments is a challenging task, especially in stressful conditions where patients and visitors are often present.
An innovative internal mapping project of Ichilov and Assuta hospitals in Ramat Hachayal will enable visitors and patients to quickly reach their destination. Navigation is done using the NAVIN application developed in Israel. The app knows how to treat factors that are relevant to pedestrians, such as finding the short way even in the case of closed gates, as is the case mainly in the evening or during holidays and Saturdays. Thus the user will navigate through an open gate and will not be forced to surround the hospital after it becomes clear that the road he is walking in is blocked.
The NAVIN application was developed by Shay Ronen, a fighter pilot in F16 who used fighter-jet technologies that do not rely on satellites. The construction of the database of hospital routes was built on a voluntary basis by the community of mamimim as a contribution to the community. Hospitals are complex structures with multiple clinics and departments, and some have evolved over the years by various planners and are therefore difficult to navigate. In addition to stand-alone navigation, the app lets you send others the exact location point and easily meet without the need for calls and messages.
App users can contribute to improved mapping by switching to "map" mode, allowing the phone to collect information as the user moves through the hospital space. The information is collected anonymously without the user's information using the sensors of the smartphones.
The internal mapping project of buildings is in the process of expansion to additional hospitals as well as shopping malls, airports and other complex public buildings.
