The CEO of Pfizer, the global pharmaceutical giant, Albert Borla said last night (Saturday) that he was tested again and came out positive for COVID-19. At the same time, he hastened to clarify: "I feel well and have no symptoms," in a statement released to the media.
Borella, 60, already contracted the virus in August and began a session of the company's oral antiviral treatment with Paxlovid, an antiviral drug used to treat people at high risk, such as elderly patients. Borella received four doses of a vaccine developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.
The CEO said he has not yet taken the new bivalent accelerator developed by Moderna and the Pfizer and BioNTech team, the new injections aim to tackle the BA.5 and BA.4 Omicron subvariants, which account for 84.8% and 1.8%, respectively, of all versions in circulation in the United States, based on the most recent data.
"I have not yet received the new bivalent booster, as I followed the CDC guidelines to wait three months since my previous case of COVID which was in mid-August," Borella added. In August, the FDA approved Pfizer and Moderna's updated booster shots targeting the dominant BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron subtypes.
