Unilever has informed retailers that the price of Carambo will increase on October 2

Unilever has informed retailers that the price of Carambo will increase on October 2. This will be the first in a chain of price hikes that the company is initiating: it announced that it will raise the prices of its other brands as of November 1. The scope of the price increase is 10%-20%. Among other things, prices will increase: Chocolate Click, Dove products, Bedin, Pinook, Rexona, X and Bagel Bagel products, Strauss ice cream products such as Magnum, Thelma cornflakes, margarine and Knorr products.
At this stage it is not clear if the retailers will agree to the price increase. Unilever is a very strong company and it will be difficult for chains to live without its products. In addition, let's not forget that some chains actually want to raise prices. Recently the Osher Ad chain took Unilever products off the shelves claiming that the chain had raised prices. In the meantime, Mosfersal stated that they will not agree to the price increase.
Unilever is the fifth largest consumer products company in Israel when in August it overtook Diplomat in the ranking. Unilever is a British-Dutch concern that operates in 190 countries. It is considered the fourth largest consumer products company in the world and the largest soap manufacturer in the world. Its profit in 2021 was 52.4 billion euros and its total revenue: 6.6 billion euros.
Unilever also owns Ben & Jerry's in the world (but not in Israel) and was recently involved in an attempt to prevent the sale of ice cream in the settlements - an attempt that failed.
In the background, despite the wave of price increases, it seems that Israelis have not stopped buying in recent months: the volume of purchases by Israelis with credit cards in the months of July-August amounted to approximately NIS 74 billion, an increase of approximately 27% compared to July-August 2019 (before the corona virus). This is evident from the data of the credit company Cal, which even made an extrapolation to the entire market (a statistical assessment that allows the data to be extended to the entire market). A similar picture emerges from the competitor Isracard's data.
It seems that the consumer protest against the Diplomat price increases (and especially against the Starkist tuna price increase) does not stop the giant companies that dominate the shelves in Israel. Kimberly Clark did not back down from the announcement of the increase in the price of Lilly and Mourat Teva toilet paper products, as well as Kleenex, Nicole and Haggis, when some chains rejected the price increase. Also, Tara recently announced that it is raising the prices of dairy products that are not controlled by the state.
The reason for the price increase according to a letter sent by the company to retailers is the "continuous increase in the various costs". According to the company, it cannot continue to absorb the price increases, but "has invested a lot of effort in significant consultation steps to bring about the fact that the increase in prices will be limited as much as possible. It does not reflect the full increase in costs of recent years and Unilever will continue to absorb part of it."
