A few hours before the start of the school year, an agreement was reached between the teachers' organization, which represents high school teachers, and the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education.
The school year in high schools will start tomorrow as a series. This, in continuation of the agreement of principles signed today (Wednesday) morning between the Histadrut of Teachers and the state, which allowed the opening of the school year in the rest of the education system - kindergartens, elementary schools and middle schools.
The teachers' organization threatened a strike after the Ministry of Finance has so far refused to sign an agreement that would regulate the working conditions of teachers working in high schools that will switch to five school days, instead of the current six.
The chairman of the teachers' organization, Ran Erez, demanded that teachers who are studying for a degree or in further education, or who work an additional job, and who work in a school that operates five days a week, will receive a day off on Friday according to their working conditions, but will also be able to receive an additional day off of their choice during the week. So that in fact they will work full time in the scope of four working days.
It was agreed that in each high school a humanities coordinator will be appointed who will receive a 6% salary increase for the position.
It was also agreed that the number of study hours of the humanities subjects in each high school will not be affected as a result of the baccalaureate reform and that the scope of the teachers' job, and their position, will not be affected as a result of the reform.
As part of the agreement, it was agreed that during the next year discussions will begin between the Ministry of Finance and the teachers' organization on a salary agreement that will include new salary increases for the organization's teachers.
