Following the entry of Google pay into Israel: There has been an increase in the number of Israelis' transactions in digital wallets, according to data from the Shebaa (automatic banking services) company, which manages the national payment card system in Israel. Or on the smartphone and linking the mobile to the cash register for payment on credit, without using a physical credit card.
Expenditure in December through digital wallets reached NIS 592.49 million, an increase of 42.4% compared to the figure in November of NIS 416.08 million. In total, since the entry of Apple's digital wallet into Israel, Apple Pay, in May 2021, there has been a 33-fold increase in the expenses of the Israeli public through digital wallets.
Despite this, this is a negligible percentage of all credit transactions: total expenses in December were NIS 34.91 billion - meaning that transactions through digital wallets constitute only 1.697% of all transactions in credit in December. Although an increase compared to 1.02% in November, it is still clear that payment by phone has not yet conquered the market. Apple Pay is still the largest digital wallet in Israel, followed by Google Pay and Beat. The increase in the number of transactions in wallets can also be attributed to the launch campaigns of Google Pay that enticed many to download the app and pay through it.
