Knesset's Finance Committee: Approved to increase the additional income supplement for senior citizens by a significant amount

Posted on Sep 19, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

The Knesset's Finance Committee has decided to fully approve the chapter in the Arrangements Law that proposes to increase the additional income supplement for senior citizens in the country by a significant amount. These are usually citizens who are not entitled to pensions. The move, which will cost the state NIS 1.5 billion and will be financed by increasing the deficit, is expected to raise those citizens above the poverty line.
The chairman of the Finance Committee, MK Alex Kushnir: "This change benefits those who receive an income guarantee and also includes other populations that were not eligible. The income will actually be 70% of the minimum wage, and beyond that everyone who enters the circle of recipients is also entitled to various benefits. "Such as assistance with rent, electricity payments and more, and it allows for a very significant leap. There are some other improvements as a committee that we would like to make in law, and we are in discussion with the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Division. I hope for the next discussion."
The committee members welcomed the move and noted that it is a significant step, and at the same time emphasized that it should be followed by additional steps, when it is appropriate to provide more significant sums for the dignified existence of all the elderly in Israel.
In the bill presented to the committee, it is proposed to increase the rates of supplementary income supplement for senior citizens, as follows:
* Eligible persons who have not yet reached the age of 70: for an individual - the maximum amount will increase by NIS 473 per month, and for the rest (couple, couple with a child, single with a child) by NIS 745 per month.
* For those who have reached the age of 70 and have not yet turned 80: For an individual - the maximum amount will increase by NIS 477 per month, and for the rest by NIS 754 per month.
* For those who have reached the age of 80: For an individual - the maximum amount will increase by NIS 481, and for the rest by NIS 761 per month.
