The shopping centers in Eilat sum up an excellent summer in sales: increase of 9%

Posted on Sep 5, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

The shopping centers and the chains that populate them sum up an excellent summer in sales: sales in July-August increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2019 (pre-Corona). An increase of 15% was recorded in the open power centers and of about 7.5% in the leading closed malls - according to data from Rees, which relies on the redemptions of about 2,500 stores. July ended with a 12% increase in redemptions, while in August there was an increase of 6.2%.
The malls operate according to the purple mark, the lighter one, and are exempt from the green mark after it was claimed that they also house essential stores, such as supermarkets and pharmacies.
The two malls that recorded the sharpest increase among the leading malls are Big Eilat (27%) and Seafront (12%) in Eilat. In the mall by the sea, which is known for its rents and high revenues, the average revenue was more than NIS 185 per square meter.
Eilat has become the favorite destination for a vacation for Israelis, in light of the Corona morbidity and restrictions on returning from abroad. The hotels in Eilat ended in July
Revenues at the Seven Stars Mall in Herzliya also increased by an average of 9% to NIS 88 per square meter.
The trend of high sales in malls, and even more so in open shopping centers, continues throughout 2021. The first half ended with the shopping centers having a huge increase in square meters - 21% compared to the same period in 2019. Sales peaked in February and March. On 'Back to routine'.
Since then, the growth has moderated, but malls and retailers still benefit from the addition of hundreds of thousands of Israelis who are typically abroad in the summer, as well as the fact that the green label restrictions do not apply to them - so unvaccinated can enter malls without having to show a negative 87% Coronam test (According to data from the Hotels Association) - which has led to increased customer traffic also in malls and tourist areas in the southern city.
