The Minister of Transportation, Merav Michaeli, ordered the separation of the passengers from red countries at Ben Gurion Airport from the other passengers, and from today passengers from countries defined as most at risk will land in Terminal 1. Currently, these countries include Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, India, Mexico and Russia.
Michaeli's decision was made in a meeting with professionals at Ben Gurion Airport and in coordination with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and the Minister of Finance.
This separation will allow those arriving to go through the entire chain of entry into the country - landing, PCR inspection, passport control, luggage, customs and travel home - separately from the other landers. The shuttles will also be reinforced inside the airport, in order to reduce the congestion, and the landers will be informed about the health guidelines.
At the moment in Terminal 1 there are no landings of international flights, and there is no border control compound, corona checkpoint or customs. Thus, the Airports Authority will need to be prepared quickly in order to provide these services to landing passengers.
