Again: A rise in fuel prices - sixth month in a row

Posted on May 30, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

Again a rise in fuel prices, this is the sixth month in a row: at midnight between Monday and Tuesday (31.5-1.6) the maximum price per liter of 95-octane gasoline without lead per consumer at the self-service station (including VAT) will rise to NIS 6.13 per liter, an increase of seven cents a month First, a full service surcharge will normally be 21 cents per liter (including VAT).
The rise in prices of seven cents in June joins the upward trend in fuel prices in December, January, February, March, April and May, which amounted to 79 cents per liter.
Since 2006, when the Ministry of Energy started publishing fuel prices on its website, the lowest price was NIS 4.79 per liter for self-refueling a year ago - in May 2020. Since then, it has risen by NIS 1.34 within a year and a month, an increase of 28%. Before the eruption of the corona in Israel, which lowered fuel prices to an all-time low, the price of fuel was NIS 5.92 in March 2020. The highest price was recorded in September 2012, when one liter of self-service cost NIS 8.12.
74% of the price of a liter of fuel is taxes and marketing expenses, so the price of the fuel itself is actually only 26% of the price to the consumer. Israel is one of the countries with the highest tax rate in the world on fuel. The Ministry of Finance fears that state revenues will soon fall from taxes on fuel for cars due to the relatively rapid transition to cars traveling on electric charging. For this reason, the Treasury is already preparing new taxation methods, which will make up for the loss. Among other things, it is proposed to collect tax according to the distance traveled - those who travel more kilometers will pay more - and like a garden, congestion charges will be levied at the entrances to the big cities.
Beyond that, Israel is also at the top of the world in fuel prices, with an average price of $ 1,816 per liter. Among the few countries where a liter of fuel is more expensive than in Israel are countries such as Sweden, Italy, Finland, Greece, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and the Republic of Central Africa. Hong Kong is at the top of the list of expensive countries with fuel consumption, where the price reaches $ 2,424.
Meanwhile, in more than 160 countries the price of fuel is cheaper than in Israel. It is especially worth filling a liter of fuel in oil-producing countries - Venezuela with a price of $ 0.02 per liter, Iran with $ 1,061 per liter, followed by Angola, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Turkmenistan, Nigeria, Ecuador, UAE, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia , Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Ethiopia and Egypt.
