Walmart buys the Israeli start-up company Zeekit

Posted on May 13, 2021 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

American retail giant Walmart buys the Israeli start-up company Zeekit, which specializes in fashion. The company has developed technology for virtual measurement of clothes through an app or directly on the btrand's website. The purchase amount was not disclosed.
Chameleon was founded in 2013 by Yael Wiesel, Nir Applebaum and Alon Krystal. To date, the company has raised only about $ 12 million, mostly from private investors, including Avner Stepak. According to a report released by Walmart on a blog on her website, she expects the acquisition to help her in fashion. Vice President Denice Incandela said that with the technology of the Israeli company, customers will be able to measure Walmart's private label clothing as well as measure Lewis's clothing.
When the technology is launched on the Walmart website, customers will be able to upload their photos or choose from different models according to their height, body type and skin tone. The technology will show how the clothes will fit and will be similar to the experience they have in the store. They can also enlist the help of a friend in making a purchase decision by sharing the virtual outfit and getting an opinion.
Walmart's website reads: "Chameleon's impressive technology has been tested by many leading brands and retailers in the fashion industry. The technology uses real-time image processing to map the image of the person in thousands of sections. A chameleon can also be used to create other fashion experiences, including the ability to build the world’s largest virtual closet and mix and match clothes seamlessly.
"Once the deal closes we will be happy to add to us the experienced team of Chameleon and the three founders, Yael Wiesel as its CEO; Alon Krystal, Chief Technology Officer; "We are confident that with the team's expertise in bringing real-time image technologies, computer vision and artificial intelligence to the fashion world, we will identify more ways to innovate for our customers as we continue our efforts to be the first choice in fashion."
