Israelis ordered 61 million packages from abroad in 2017

61 million packages were ordered from abroad in 2017, with a total weight of 10,800 tons, reports Israel Postal Service in data for the year 2017. This represents an increase of about 15% compared to 2016, when 52 million packages were ordered with a total weight of 9,704 tons. Online has grown by hundreds of percent over the past decade. For comparison, in 2006, only 19 million packages were ordered from abroad.

International holidays increased orders from abroad, with some 8.4 million packages delivered in November, compared to 7 million in November 2007. In December 2007, 7 million packages were delivered, compared with 6.2 million in December 2016.
According to Israel Post data, Express and eBay are still the most popular shopping sites among Israelis, followed by next asos and Amazon. Book Depository and the iHerb site are also popular among Israelis. Ali Express is the leading site in orders, with 50% of orders to Israel currently being processed. The leading categories of orders are clothing and footwear, housewares, accessories, home and cellular gadgets, and vitamins and cosmetics.
The city of Carmiel is the leading city in 2017 in terms of population size with 163,000 packages, with an average of 3.4 packages per year, with Kiryat Gat ranked second in the rankings with over 172,000 packages, and Rishon LeZion ranked in 2016, 1 in package orders ranked third in 2017 with 783 thousand packages Tel Aviv is the city whose residents ordered the most packages in 2017 with over 1.1 million packages, but in relation to population size it ranks only 19th place.

Danny Goldstein, CEO of Israel Post, said, "The number of orders from abroad has increased tremendously and in 2017 every two years two packages were ordered in Israel, since the Israeli public realized that it could save tens and hundreds of shekels in every purchase through online purchases. This year, we have invested heavily in improving the service, which enabled us to cope with the continued increase in orders, and we have launched the online package trading center in Modi'in, which can absorb and sort over 100 million items a year
