The Consumer Protection Authority will impose a fine of NIS 6.75 million on Bezeq

Posted on Apr 12, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

The Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Authority will impose a fine of NIS 6.75 million on Bezeq for misleading consumers regarding the speed of browsing the services they purchased from it. Bezeq can argue against the imposition of the fine and its scope.
This is a "TOP100" package sold by the company as part of its activity as a network provider through Bezeq International. As the name implies, the package guarantees a maximum speed of 100 MB, while the minimum download speed is 40 MB.
Those who, according to the authority, were consumers who did not receive even the minimum speed, while Bezeq could tell them in advance that they would not be able to provide it. According to the authority's announcement, joining the service is done after checking the Internet speed that the company has the ability to provide to the consumer's address.
This test is done using a dedicated system that measures the distance between the consumer address and the company's existing Internet infrastructure point. If, according to the test, it is not possible to provide the consumer address with the browsing speed in the TOP100 package, another package will be offered to the consumer - which was not offered by Bezeq.
Anita Yitzhak, Deputy Authority Commissioner and Head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division: "This is a broad deception of the consumer public regarding the service promised to them. Many consumers do not have the sufficient knowledge and / or ability to estimate the surfing speed provided to them." "Companies that violate the law in all areas. And will prosecute any dealer who violates the law, especially when it comes to a wide scope of harm to thousands of consumers as was the case here."
