More than 20 Israelis, including officials from the defense industries, were interrogated as part of an investigation into the illegal trade of missiles for a country in Asia. The suspects, according to an investigation by the police, were engaged in the development, production and sale of armed missiles for the same country.
Among other things, experimental documentation was published for the same missiles.
It also turned out that the suspects received instructions for action from entities related to that foreign country, in exchange for receiving large-scale funds and additional benefits. The connection between them and that country was conducted in secret, in an attempt to disguise the cause for which the missiles are intended. "This investigation revealed a great deal of information about the methods of action of those foreign bodies vis-à-vis Israelis, including the use of concealment and secrecy techniques in carrying out the transactions and transferring the proceeds to them," the police and GSS said in a statement.
Some of the suspects have served in significant positions in the IDF, and in the past worked in large defense industries. During the investigation, there was a real fear that the weapons would reach hostile elements in Israel - even though the country with which Israelis traded is not defined as an enemy state. The investigation material has recently been submitted for examination to the Economic Department of the State Attorney's Office.
According to the GSS, "the suspects engaged in the development, production, experimentation and sale of armed roaming missiles for a country in Asia illegally. They were investigated on suspicion of committing offenses against state security, offenses under the Defense Export Control Law, money laundering offenses and other economic offenses. "
The GSS added that "the affair illustrates the potential damage to national security inherent in transactions carried out by Israeli citizens, vis-à-vis foreign parties, illegally - including the fear that this technology may spill over to countries hostile to Israel."
According to Israeli law, any person, company or corporation interested in exporting security equipment, security knowledge or security service must obtain a certificate of registration in the Defense Export Registry, for which the Defense Export Control Division is responsible. The registration in the Exporters Registry is a precondition for carrying out marketing activities and for obtaining marketing and export licenses in accordance with the law.
