Elbit Systems, under the management of Bezalel (Butzi) Machlis, won a contract to supply two long-range patrol aircraft to a country in the Asia-Pacific. The contract is worth 114 million dollars, and will be carried out over five years.
As part of the contract, Elbit will supply the country with two patrol aircraft based on a new ATR 72-600 aircraft. In each aircraft, Elbit will integrate a mission suit that includes a mission management system, electro-optics, radar, SIGINT (signals intelligence), communications, and more.
Elbit Systems' order backlog grew to $15.8 billion at the end of the first quarter, compared to $15.1 billion at the end of 2022. The ratio between orders and sales increased in the first quarter to 1.5, compared to 1.25 in the fourth quarter of last year - an increase of 20 %. An increase in this ratio is an indication of accelerating growth in the second half of 2023.
About two weeks ago, Elbit announced that it had received its first order as part of the framework agreement with the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The maximum ceiling amount of the framework agreement is 410 million dollars. In the first order, Elbit will supply Romania with the first three systems (out of seven) of the "Watchkeeper X" tactical drone, for $180 million.
The CEO of Elbit Aircraft Systems, Yoram Shmueli, said: "Elbit Systems has been supplying special mission aircraft to various countries around the world for more than a decade. The new contract expands the variety of platforms and solutions we offer to our customers."
