Now it's official: the outline for credit card cuts for Bank Hapoalim and Leumi customers has been updated, and softens a bit. The Economics Committee approved the new outline of the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Israel, which changed following the Corona crisis.
Under the Shtrum law, the two major banks are supposed to reduce half of their credit card facilities by the end of the year, but following the crisis, Finance Minister Israel Katz published a slightly softer outline, first published in Calcalist. According to the outline, the banks will cut by 45% the credit frameworks, and the minimum framework threshold will increase from NIS 5,000 to NIS 7,500. The new outline will be valid for one year, and in 2022 will return to the original outline.
Committee Chairman Yaakov Margie (Shas) said: "Although there is a change of trend in the order, an earthquake is not here. We came here with clean hands to encourage competition, but not in any case. If we are likely to cause damage or miss the target, we can lower The pace.
Yuval Teller from the Ministry of Finance's Budget Division explained that the proposed outline is a compromise between the desire to prevent harm to the population affected by the crisis and still promote competition: "In the days when they were repaired we were not here, but we are here With all the numbers, the outline is balanced, and we manage to balance the two.
