About 2,000 families in Eilat Both spouses were unemployed at the end of October. This is an increase of 26% compared to September and 85% compared to August, when there were only 1,080 families in the city where both spouses are unemployed. This emerges from data published today by the Employment Service on unemployment in Eilat and other localities, in the background of the discussions on the bill to open hotels in Eilat and the Dead Sea.
At the end of October, Eilat returned to the top of the table of unemployment-hit cities in Israel with a 41% employment rate. In September she was still in second place with 39%. The table refers to cities with 50,000 inhabitants or more. Although the economy is gradually returning to activity, at the end of October Eilat remained the only city in Israel with a population of more than 50,000 with a rate of job seekers exceeding 40%.
The first in the table in September was the ultra-Orthodox city of Beitar Illit with 40.5%. It dropped to second place in October with 37%, ie 4% below Eilat. Except for Eilat, most of the localities at the top of the localities with the highest unemployment rate in Israel are ultra-Orthodox or Arab localities. The stack Nazareth and Modi'in Illit are in third and fourth place with 30.5%. In fifth place is Bnei Brak with 29.5%, followed by: Umm al-Fahm with 29%, Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh with 26.5%, Rahat with 24% and Bat Yam closes the list of ten cities with a job demand rate of 23.5%.
