Cellcom joins the 5th generation frequencies - and raises it's cellular prices

Posted on Oct 21, 2020 by Ifi Reporter

Cellcom received a license to operate the 5th generation frequencies in Israel from the Ministry of Communications, thus joining Pelephone, Partner and HOT Mobile, which received the license last month. The only company that has not yet received a license is Expon 018, which owns the we4G brand, as it is required to complete compliance with certain conditions, such as providing guarantees and presenting an engineering plan. Meanwhile, yesterday, Expon CEO Yaakov Nadborni resigned after 5 and a half years.
Cellcom, which recently acquired Golan Telecom, joins the strategy of HOT Mobile, which announced that the consumer is required to upgrade to a package at a more expensive price than currently offered, in order to enjoy the benefits of the 5th generation. Partner and Pelephone, on the other hand, have announced that the consumer will be able to stay in the current package and price and enjoy the upgraded surfing, and a premium will only be charged for value-added services, such as high surfing volume.
Cellcom offers two packages: a cellular line with 500 GB of surfing at NIS 49.9 per month - the cheapest of all the companies; And a bundle package that includes a cellular line with 500 GB and a Cellcom TV app for NIS 59.9 per month for viewing from a mobile device. HOT Mobile offers two packages: a cellular line with 500 GB of surfing for NIS 59.9 per month for five years; And a bundle package that includes a cellular line with 1,000 GB and an application of the discounted TV service NEXT TV for NIS 69.9 per month for viewing from the mobile device for five years.
Partner offers two packages: a cellular line with 500 GB of surfing for NIS 59.9 per month; And a cellular line with 1,000 GB for NIS 69.9 per month. Pelephone offers three packages: a cellular line with 200 GB of surfing for NIS 49.9 per month; A cellular line with 500 GB for NIS 59.9 per month; And a bundle package that includes a cellular line with 200 GB and a series + series of the discounted TV service STING TV from yes for NIS 69.9 per month for viewing from a mobile device via an app.
About two months ago, the 5th generation tender ended, at the end of which the companies won frequencies in exchange for paying the state a total of NIS 265 million. In recent weeks, companies have begun upgrading 4th generation antennas and setting up new antennas when they are required to complete a nationwide deployment within five years. The service is currently limited to specific deployment areas, and beyond the names of cities the companies do not advertise exactly where the antennas are located. In addition, the consumer must own a 5th generation compatible device.
The 5th generation will allow for longer battery life, growth at speeds that can reach over 1GB, lower latency and greater data transfer. In addition, the new technology will enable capabilities such as remote medicine, autonomous vehicles and augmented and virtual reality.
