Czech republic decided to purchase Raphael's Spider system

Czech Defense Minister Lubomir Matner announced today that after examining seven air defense systems from nine manufacturers, the Czech Republic has decided to purchase Raphael's Spider system as a replacement for the outdated Russian system. The Czechs plan to sign the contract in 2021, under which they will purchase 4 batteries of the portable Spider system. Contract value: $ 430 million and the systems will be delivered in 2023.
Each battery includes a command and control vehicle, launchers for Rafael's Python-4 and Derby missiles and a radar made by IAI's Elta company.
The system is capable of protecting airports and strategic sites, as well as spreading quickly to new sites. The Czech Republic already last year ordered Elta's radar systems to reinforce its air defense system, at $ 100 million.
Since joining NATO in 1999, the Czech Republic has been in the long and costly process of rebuilding its military forces, in line with North Atlantic Alliance standards, and in response to Russia's growing threat to its neighbors. Will not be able to meet the target of spending 2% of GDP for security purposes.
Although not purchased by the Air Force, the Spider system is a success among foreign customers. India has so far acquired it, and according to foreign sources also Georgia, Vietnam and Singapore. The Philippines is expected to be the next customer of the system.
