Vehicle License Fees Set to Increase by 3.24% in April 2024
Posted on Jan 30, 2025 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
According to documents released today by the Ministry of Transportation, Israeli motorists will face an increase in vehicle license fees starting in April 2024. The 3.24% fee hike is attributed to changes in the consumer price index (CPI), which has impacted various sectors of the economy.
The increase in vehicle license fees follows a broader trend of price hikes across essential sectors, including food, water, electricity, and fuel. In addition to the higher annual license fee, Israelis will also see price increases for other licensing-related services.
Increased Fees for Vehicle Licenses
Starting in April, vehicle owners—including those with cars, motorcycles, and other licensed vehicles—will be required to pay a higher annual license renewal fee to the State of Israel. This fee increase comes on top of a recent rise in charges paid to the licensing institute, which occurred just a few months ago. Additionally, the discounts for electric vehicle owners that were previously offered have been canceled.
The Ministry of Transportation also announced price increases for several licensing services, including:
- The duplicate driver’s license fee, which will rise from 22 shekels to 23 shekels.
- The cost of a motorcycle driving test will increase from 75 shekels to 78 shekels.
- The fee for a 10-year driver’s license will rise from 488 shekels to 503 shekels.
Broader Impact of Price Increases
This increase in vehicle-related fees is part of a broader pattern of rising costs in Israel. Over the past year, significant price hikes have been implemented in essential services and goods, including utilities, fuel, and food products, further adding financial strain to Israeli households.
