Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi announced on Monday that Greece would allow the entry of Israeli citizens without limiting the number or destinations they would be allowed to reach, subject to a corona check before leaving the country. According to the announcement, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dandias told Ashkenazi that the decision would take effect from September 15.
"There is an important strategic partnership between Israel and Greece and the fact that Greece is the first country to open its gates in the Corona era is proof of the strong alliance between the two countries," Ashkenazi said. "The Greek-Israeli relationship is an example that cooperation and direct dialogue between countries is the surest way to economic prosperity."
Ashkenazi added that "we are committed to trying and finding the right outline to maintain a routine in the shadow of the corona that will continue to accompany us, including the issue of outbound and inbound tourism. Together with the Ministry of Transport, Tourism and Health we must find a way to continue opening more destinations."
About two weeks ago, the Foreign Ministry announced that Greece was about to double the number of Israelis allowed to enter it to 1,200. At the beginning of last month, the Corona Cabinet, in coordination with Greece, decided to allow 600 Israelis to enter Greece each week, and to visit Athens, Corfu, Thessaloniki and Crete. In addition, the cabinet announced that Israelis are also allowed to visit Bulgaria and Croatia without the obligation of isolation.
