Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced on Monday the launch of its latest precision weapon system — the “Lahat Alpha”, the newest member of the company’s renowned Lahat family of laser-guided anti-tank missiles.
Developed in response to the growing global demand for long-range, highly accurate weaponry, the Lahat Alpha features an extended range exceeding 20 kilometers and is designed to strike high-value targets from safe standoff distances, well beyond enemy threat zones.
Precision, Range, and Flexibility
According to IAI, the Lahat Alpha was engineered for counter-attack warfare, allowing forces to engage armored and fortified targets without direct line of sight. The missile can be launched from ground vehicles or helicopters, homing in on a laser-designated target marked by ground or air units.
The system’s design emphasizes simplicity and rapid deployment — operators can reportedly be trained in less than a week. IAI also highlighted the reliability of laser-guidance technology, noting its superiority over GPS-based systems, particularly in environments where GPS signals may be jammed or degraded.
“Meeting the Needs of the Modern Battlefield”
During the unveiling, Boaz Levy, CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries, said:
“The Lahat Alpha system reflects our commitment to providing advanced, combat-proven solutions that address the evolving needs of the modern battlefield. We are proud to introduce a missile built on decades of expertise in missile and laser-guidance technologies. This development demonstrates our ability to meet the challenges of the future with innovative, reliable systems.”
Enhanced Capabilities at Competitive Cost
Guy Bar-Lev, Deputy General Manager of IAI’s Missile and Space Systems Division, added:
“Lahat Alpha was developed to meet our customers’ operational requirements while extending range and improving overall efficiency. The system answers the global demand for precise, effective missile solutions at competitive prices.”
Proven Lineage, Modern Innovation
The Lahat (Laser Homing Attack or Laser Homing Anti-Tank) family has been in operational use for years and is known for its precision, modular design, and adaptability across multiple platforms. With the introduction of Lahat Alpha, IAI aims to strengthen its position in the global defense market, offering militaries a next-generation, field-proven missile system capable of operating in complex and contested environments.
