Israel Aerospace Industry officially opened its new factory for electronic production in Ofakim, following an investment of NIS 50 million. This inauguration comes just seven months after the company's Board of Directors approved the proposal by Chairman Amir Peretz.

Establishing the Ofak factory is part of the Israeli Aerospace Industries’ broader strategy to develop the Negev region and support local economies in southern Israel. This initiative follows the opening of a factory in Be'er Sheva in February 2024.

Strategic Development for the Negev

Spanning 1,600 square meters, the new facility is conveniently located near the Ofakim train station and is projected to employ around 100 workers by 2025, including engineers and skilled technicians.

So far, about 40 employees have been recruited, all residents of southern Israel, with half of them hailing from Ofakim. The factory aims to hire 500 workers from the local community and surrounding areas, fostering collaboration with academic institutions in the region.

Strengthening Defense Capabilities

The factory's establishment was made possible through a partnership between Eltal Company—a subsidiary of the Elta Company—and the Aerospace Industry. This collaboration aims to enhance production capabilities to support Israel’s defense system.

The Ofak factory will focus on assembling electronic circuits using advanced technologies, including:

  • Surface-mount technology (SMT) for circuit assembly
  • Selective and manual soldering
  • Electromechanical assemblies compliant with military standards
  • Production of aviation wiring harnesses for both civil and military applications

Additionally, the facility will implement rigorous quality control measures, including electrical testing and the use of improved solder alloys for reliability.

Economic Impact

With a commitment to purchasing approximately $38 million worth of materials over the next four years, the factory is expected to significantly contribute to the local economy while enhancing Israel’s defense capabilities.
