At the end of June, the International Pilots Association warned pilots of losing GPS reception near Ben Gurion Airport. This was followed by weeks when many pilots reported difficulties in continuous reception that impair flight safety and autopilot systems.
"Loss of GPS signals affects sign-in and out approaches and can create many alerts for systems that move based on internal location," the Pilots Association wrote. "Flight crews should be aware of the potential risk, avoid distractions and plan an alternative according to procedures and as needed."
Although the aircraft and autopilot systems are not only based on the GPS system, their absorption is responsible, among other things, for resetting and updating the location of the aircraft. In addition, the loss of GPS reception bounces back-up systems in the cockpit of an aircraft that requires air crews to conduct a series of tests and sometimes to operate ancillary systems that distract them at sensitive times - such as landing and takeoff.
 The Kremlin spokesman dismissed accusations that Russia was guilty of the mishap and argued that it was easy to blame the Russians for anything wrong. In the past, it was also reported that the Russian military is disrupting GPS reception to protect strategic facilities in Russia, the Crimea and Syria.
