Intel has fired dozens of employees in Israel in the recent period, with the layoffs being spread across several departments and divisions where projects were closed.

Although the number of those fired is small, it indicates a trend that may strengthen in the coming year. The number of global layoffs at Intel is unknown at this point, but about two months ago it was announced that the intention was to lay off thousands of workers due to the slowdown in the PC market.

At the same time, following the cuts plan devised by Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, the chip giant set financial reduction targets for each global division that it must implement in its own way, with the ambition being to reduce personnel as a last option. Some divisions chose in the first stage to reduce the use of external consultants and contractors as well as to cut budget projects.
Some of the divisions that are also active in Israel offered voluntary retirement packages to employees, and some offered the company's employees to go on sick leave until the division's budgets were clarified. In other divisions where projects were closed, the company fired dozens of employees, as mentioned.
Intel currently employs 14,000 people in Israel. The process of cuts, which should last three years, is only at its beginning, so it is possible that additional waves of layoffs are expected to come as the pressure to meet the cutbacks increases. Israel is still considered one of the strategic countries for the company's future plan, so the damage to it is expected to be significantly smaller.
Intel Israel stated: "In response to market conditions and macroeconomic changes, Intel Global is working to save billions of dollars in costs over the next three years, among other things by streamlining the size of teams and limiting hiring, which results in a certain reduction in manpower around the world, including in Israel."
