Volkswagen and its representative in Israel Champion Motors and Mobilay will establish in Israel a government-supported project for the deployment of a cooperative electric vehicle. The three companies announced.
Project development will begin in 2019 subject to approvals. As part of the project, Volkswagen Group will supply the electric vehicles. Mobilay will supply the power of autonomous driving, mapping and handling the necessary regulatory moves, while Champion Motors will operate the fleet of electric vehicles.
The Government of Israel has undertaken to provide support for the project in terms of regulatory, infrastructure and in terms of the required computerization. The project itself will undergo three years of experimentation until its full and formal deployment in 2022.
Four years ago, the joint transportation company Auber announced that it plans to launch the experiment, which began in the meantime, together with Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, as part of the "Center" For advanced technologies "to be built in Pittsburgh, near the campus.
This experiment was supposed to promote the cooperative transport giant towards the robo-taxi, a communal vehicle for driving without a driver. About a year and a half later, Ober announced that it was opening the experiment, and for that purpose it even purchased hundreds of millions of dollars from the American start-up Otto, which develops technologies for autonomous trucks.
Also in Arlington, Texas, a similar trial is being carried out on a pre-defined route in Arizona, and Yamu is being assisted by Intel, which has acquired Mobily. About two years ago, NuTonomy, which was acquired by the manufacturer of the Delphi motor equipment, started operating an autonomous electric taxi service in Singapore's business area in the city's business area, measuring about 6.5 square kilometers at regular collection and downloading stations and via an application on a smartphone. .
About three months ago, we reported that the Haifa Municipality and the Ministry of Transport are examining a proposal to establish a center that will examine autonomous cooperative transportation activity in the coastal area of Shemen Beach. The offer is signed by Israeli company Autoretti, which signed a contract with the French company NAVYA, which already operates dozens of autonomous buses and taxis around the world.
Intel itself published a study last year that says that the "passenger economy" that will develop as a result of autonomous technology will roll up to $ 7 trillion by mid-century.
