The company IBC Unlimited launched a home internet infrastructure on optical fibers that can reach a speed of up to 10 gigabytes thanks to XGS-PON technology. In the first phase, consumers will be offered a speed of up to 5 gigabytes. The move will require customers to replace end equipment (router).
The technology currently allows a speed of up to 2.5 gigabytes, which is also the highest speed that companies like Bezeq and Partner offer in Israel, but only rarely do customers report that they actually surfed at such a speed. BanLimited said that the new technology will now also allow them to sell 2.5 gigabytes.
This is an early launch of the 2.5 gigabyte and 5 gigabyte speeds, as they will be available nationwide from the end of the first quarter of 2023.
The technology allows, among other things, symmetrical surfing so that the speed of uploading the files will be the same (potentially) as the speed of downloading the files. Unlimited previously offered symmetry between upload and download, but canceled the service. No company in Israel offers such symmetry today.
What is the use of such a speed? It is good for gamers, virtual reality applications and high-tech workers, and for anyone interested in a high data download and upload rate.
Starting at the end of the first quarter of 2023 (March-April) the communication companies that use IBC Unlimited's fiber optic infrastructure will be able to offer their customers packages with such browsing rates. These include HOT and Cellcom Fiber, which announced today that it will start marketing the packages.
HOT has already announced that it will start in November with the pre-registration of 1,000 customers for packages it calls Super wifiber, which allow surfing at extremely high speeds on Unlimited's fiber network. She did not say how much the service will cost consumers, when it is likely that the price will be high.
The prices Unlimited offers are wholesale prices - the company does not sell directly to consumers.
The company stated: "For a package of 2.5/2.5 gigabytes, IBC Unlimited will charge an additional NIS 10 per month on top of the existing 1 gigabyte price (NIS 75 before VAT) so that the price of the package will be NIS 85 before VAT - NIS 99.45 with VAT "M.
The company IBC Unlimited has reached a million households and also works with 019 Telzer, 018 Expon, 015 Helo, Ramon Internet and Amitant. Recently, 015 Helo and 018 Expon customers discovered that they surf on Unlimited's infrastructure, which were transferred without their express consent to the HOT company. They discovered this "thanks" to faults created in transit. The deployment of the new technology will already be in the first phase in 700 thousand households.
Unlimited is owned by ABC Unlimited Holdings Limited Partnership (70%), which is held in equal parts by: Israel Infrastructure Fund, HOT, Cellcom and the Electric Company (30%). The company's fiber optic network currently reaches one million households only when in Israel there are close to 3 million households. It is spread only in about 93 localities across the country out of 1,217 localities. According to the chairman of the board, Nati Cohen, the shareholders have committed to connect two million households in the State of Israel by the year 2025.
