The Innovation Authority announced the group of companies selected to establish the Israeli Quantum Computing Center with a budget of NIS 100 million for three years.
The group will be led by the Israeli start-up company Quantum Mashins, and the Israeli start-up Classic will also participate. The quantum processors will be provided by three foreign companies: Quantware, ORCA Computing, and cold quanta.

The computer is expected to start operating in a year and a half, with a processing power of "more than 50 cubic meters", and like other quantum computers in the world, it is a computer that will be used only for research and development purposes and will have no real capabilities or applications. It will help academia, the local high-tech industry, and the defense establishment. NIS 66 million will come from the Innovation Authority's budget and the rest will be funded by the selected companies.
According to the Innovation Authority, "The Quantum Computing Center will provide access to research and development in all layers of hardware and software in three different quantum processing technologies. "A future option for access to the cloud. The center will integrate dedicated quantum computing solutions, for topics such as optimization, simulations, machine learning, or various components to deal with the size and noise limitations in quantum computing."
The project is part of the national program for science and quantum technologies, which was launched about two and a half years ago with a budget of NIS 1.25 billion, by members of a forum that includes TLM, the Administration for Research, Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure, the Innovation Authority, and the Higher Education Council. The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Finance. Regardless of foreign factors.
A quantum computer, based on the principles of quantum theory, is based on qubits (quantum processing units). In contrast to the two modes on which the existing binary computers, 0 or 1, are based, the quantum computer is based on qubits (Qubits - quantum processing units), whose value can be any combination of 0 and 1.
A quantum computer is not necessarily more powerful or faster than a regular computer, but there is a set of certain tasks, with the characteristic of mathematical complexity, that an ordinary computer, powerful as it may be, can never handle, while for a quantum computer they are an easy task.
