Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has postponed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's scheduled work trip to the United States, insisting on a phone conversation with US President Joe Biden before Gallant's departure. Sources indicate that Netanyahu also required approval from the political-security cabinet for planned actions concerning Iran before Gallant's visit.

Gallant was set to depart for the US tonight. A Pentagon spokeswoman confirmed the delay but did not specify a new date for the visit. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed his expectation to meet with Gallant soon. According to a senior American official, the trip aimed to facilitate dialogue between defense ministers on critical regional issues, with concerns growing over the event's politicization.

Trust Issues Between Israel and the US
In recent days, senior US officials have expressed frustration regarding Israel's handling of a recent Iranian missile attack. There is a prevailing crisis of trust, with American officials reportedly skeptical about Israel's commitments concerning its planned actions against Iran. Gallant's visit was intended to address these rising suspicions but is now likely to exacerbate tensions.

US Urges Caution on Iranian Targets
The Biden administration has signaled that any potential Israeli military action against Iran should focus on military or governmental objectives, avoiding attacks on the oil industry or nuclear facilities. Concerns persist that targeting Iran's oil infrastructure could escalate global oil prices and destabilize the region, particularly in light of Iran's previous threats to Saudi oil sites.

Potential Impact on US Elections
Rising oil prices could also strengthen the Russian economy during a critical time for Ukraine, raising further alarms in Western capitals. President Biden has publicly advised Israel against attacking Iran's oil industry, but no conversation between him and Netanyahu had taken place by Tuesday night, prompting Netanyahu’s decision to delay Gallant’s trip.

Ongoing Regional Concerns
The administration is also working to renew negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza, but it is feared that Netanyahu may be aiming to escalate military actions in the region, particularly in Lebanon. The White House had previously stated that any Israeli military response in Lebanon would be limited in scope, but ongoing developments suggest a more complex situation ahead.
