The school year opened today in the shadow of the corona. About two million and four hundred thousand students partially returned to the study bench on the outline formulated by the Ministry of Education.
The Corona Cabinet unanimously approved Prime Minister Netanyahu's proposal not to operate the education system in the red cities until at least Thursday. Then there will be another discussion on the issue. Education Minister Galant said only educational institutions that are at risk of infection should be closed and not entire cities. He attended the hearing last night but did not vote because he is not a member of the Corona Cabinet.
The localities defined as red - Daliyat al-Carmel, Tira, Ein Mahel, Immanuel, Kfar Qassem, Asfiya, Lakia, Beit Jann, Ma'ale Iron, Iblin, Kfar Bara, Jaljulia, Kfar Aza, El Batuf, Kaabiyah- Tabash-Hajara, Jadida Makr, Umm al-Fahm, Jat, Tiberias, Beitar Illit, Kfar Kanna, Rechasim and Zim.
In kindergartens and first and second grades, classes will be held in full grades. However, in third and fourth grades, classes will be held in groups of up to 18 students. From fifth to twelfth grades, students will learn distance learning and come to school twice a week. Students in third grade and above will be required to wear masks

The Corona Cabinet decided on Monday towards midnight that studies in the 23 local authorities defined as “red” due to high morbidity figures will not open today.
The decision was made unanimously in the cabinet, and is valid until Thursday. Then the ministers will convene again and discuss whether to impose a closure on some of those local authorities. Wherever a closure is imposed there will be no studies.
The Ministry of Health has published a list of the 23 authorities, which according to the "traffic light" program of the projector Prof. Roni Gamzo will be subject to many restrictions. The list includes Daliyat al-Carmel, Tira, Ein Mahel, Emanuel, Kfar Qassem, Isfahan, Lakia, Beit Jen, Ibelin, Kfar Bara, Jaljulia, Kibbutz Kfar Aza, Al-Batuf Regional Council, Ma'ale Iron , Kaabiyah-Tabash-Hajjajra, Jadeida-Makr, Umm al-Fahm, Jat, Tiberias, Beitar Illit, Kfar Kanna, Rechasim and Zemer.
During the Corona Cabinet debate, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said there was a consensus among experts to shut down the education system in the red cities. Gamzo later explained that in the first wave a school was closed whenever a Corona case was discovered and at the moment "there is no chance that at least one Corona patient will not be found in red cities". According to him, although the children are not symptomatic, they are coefficients of infection and this can lead to a major outbreak.
Education Minister Yoav Galant attacked Edelstein and said he was acting out of "irrelevant motives", he also attacked Projector Gamzo and claimed "you are creating unnecessary panic".
At the end of the discussion, Netanyahu said that currently 95% of the schools would be opened, except for the 24 cities that were defined as "red," and so it was unanimously decided among the ministers.
The head of the Nahal Sorek regional council, Eli Escozido, said in a conversation with Ynet that the council accidentally entered the list of red authorities. "The chief of staff of Gamzo told me that this was a mistake and that we were removed from the list. I also received approval from the Minister of Health. I wish all the students of Nahal Sorek to come to school, and we will make sure that everyone returns home healthy and intact."
According to the outline of the Ministry of Education, kindergartens will continue to operate as usual, as every year, for six days a week, without splitting. The children will not have to wear masks on their faces and the parents will have to bring a signed health declaration every day. "Hawks" lunches will operate for five days a week in regular groups and permanent teams.
In first and second grades, there will be regular learning, as last year - that is, at least five days a week from Sunday to Thursday, without splitting the classes. Students will not have to wear masks and will have to bring a health declaration signed by the parents every day.
In grades 3-4, learning will also take place for at least five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday. However, the classes will be split into groups of up to 18 students per group and each student sat at a separate table. During breaks, students will be required to wear a mask, and fourth graders will also wear masks during classes.
Fifth- and sixth-grade students will study in a combined format that includes at least two days of physical learning in school, in groups of up to 18 students. While studying in class, each student will be at a separate table and will wear a mask during classes and breaks.
In seventh-twelfth grades, learning will also take place in a combined format that includes at least two days of physical learning in the school, in groups of up to 18 students. It will be possible to switch between five majors or groups at most. Mask in classes and breaks.
Students from tenth grade and up will be able to fill out a daily health declaration themselves, the rest of the students will bring a declaration signed by the parents.
Special education students will study as usual, six days a week and without splitting the classes.
