The Israel Defense Forces announced that it has eliminated senior Hamas commander Izz al-Din al-Haddad, identified by Israeli officials as the head of Hamas’ military wing in Gaza. According to Israeli security sources, the strike was carried out following what officials described as “precise and high-quality intelligence” gathered by the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet).

Al-Haddad had emerged as one of the most senior remaining commanders within Hamas following the deaths of several top Hamas leaders during the war, including Mohammed Sinwar. Israeli officials accused him of playing a central role in directing attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF forces.

Precision Strike Conducted in Gaza

According to the IDF, the operation targeted a Hamas command infrastructure site in the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials said precision-guided munitions were used in an effort to minimize collateral damage.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz described al-Haddad as one of the key architects of Hamas military operations and said Israel would continue pursuing senior militant figures involved in attacks against Israel.

Hamas Yet to Issue Full Confirmation

Hamas did not immediately release an official statement confirming al-Haddad’s death. Palestinian reports said intense Israeli airstrikes were carried out overnight in several parts of Gaza City, with casualties reported at the scene.

Reuters and other international media outlets reported that Israeli officials had identified al-Haddad as the current leader of Hamas’ armed wing following the killing of Mohammed Sinwar in 2025.

Israeli defense officials are reportedly preparing for possible retaliatory rocket fire and attempted attacks following the targeted killing.

The assassination is considered one of the most significant strikes against Hamas leadership in recent months and could influence both the military situation in Gaza and ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding ceasefire negotiations.
